SunClean Self-cleaning Glass to be on Display at Portland Home and Garden Show

PORTLAND, Ore., Feb. 14, 2003 – Home improvement enthusiasts attending the Portland Home and Garden Show will be able to witness the latest in window technology to improve the look and value of their homes – SunClean self-cleaning glass by PPG Industries.

SunClean glass will be demonstrated at booth No. 711 at the Portland Expo Center next week by Amazing Siding Corp. of Portland, a provider of top quality siding and window home improvement products.

SunClean glass is a groundbreaking window product that provides homeowners with a clearer view of the world with less work, and it is being exclusively distributed in Portland by Amazing Siding.

The company that declares “you’ll never paint again” with its siding products, Amazing Siding has added to its low-maintenance line with self-cleaning windows. SunClean self-cleaning glass has been offered in Amazing Siding’s Series 1 double-hung and Series 2 single-hung replacement windows since last summer.

“Our customers are interested in the latest technology,” said Ken Olinger, vice president, Amazing Siding. “We’re having great success with SunClean glass because the technology is part of the glass surface.  This is a great development.”

SunClean self-cleaning glass has a durable, long-lasting coating fused onto the glass at high temperatures during the manufacturing process. The coating exhibits photocatalytic properties by using the sun’s ultraviolet light to break down and loosen organic dirt. The coating also exhibits hydrophilic properties, creating a sheeting action so that rain or a light water spray can easily rinse the loosened dirt away with minimal streaking and spotting.

Amazing Siding will demonstrate SunClean glass at a kiosk with two windows installed, regular glass on the left and SunClean glass on the right. Show attendees will be able to start a simulated rain shower with the push of a button – thus demonstrating the sheeting action of water on the self-cleaning window.

“SunClean glass sales have been great in the Northwest,” said Lisa Detwiler, new product manager for PPG’s flat glass division. “The wind and rain in the region tend to make ordinary windows dirtier, but with SunClean glass the rain will actually keep the windows cleaner.”

Amazing Siding offers the glass in windows manufactured by VPI Quality Windows of Spokane, Wash. For more information on Amazing Siding, visit www.amazingsiding.com.
